Noted. (or "Noted") is an AI-powered voice-note app for iPhone, delivered as a standalone app and an iMessage extension (collectively known as "services").
When you use these services, you'll share some information with us. So we want to be upfront about the information we collect, how we use it, whom we share it with, and the controls we give you to access, update, and delete your information.
That's why we've written this Privacy Policy. And it's why we've tried to write it in a way that's blissfully free of the legalese that often clouds these documents. Of course, if you still have questions about anything in our Privacy Policy, just contact us at [email protected].
A quick note up front about how Noted. works, since it affects what data we do and don't have:
- There are no Noted. accounts. No login, no password, no profile on our servers. Your settings and notes live on your device.
- We don't run our own servers. Noted. uses third-party AI services (Google Gemini and Google Lyria) to transform your voice notes into songs and impressions, and an analytics service (Mixpanel) to understand how the app is used. We don't operate any backend infrastructure beyond that.
- The audio and video Noted. produces is private to you and whoever you send it to in iMessage. There is no public feed, no profile, no discoverability.
Information We Collect
There are three basic categories of information we collect:
- Information you provide.
- Information we get when you use our services.
- Information we get from third parties.
Here's a little more detail on each of these categories.
Information You Provide
When you interact with our services, we collect information that you provide to us. Specifically:
- The voice note you record. When you tap the mic in the iMessage extension, your audio is captured locally on your device, then sent to Google's Gemini transcription service to turn speech into text. Once transcription completes, the audio is discarded; we do not retain or store the recording on a server.
- The transcript you can edit. The transcribed text is shown to you for review and you can edit it before generating. The final text is sent to Google's Lyria 3 (for songs) or Gemini text-to-speech (for character voices) so the AI can generate the rendered output.
- Your name. During onboarding you enter a display name. We use it for the "Noted by [your name]" banner burned into the rendered videos. It is stored locally on your device and also sent as a property attached to your analytics events (see "Information We Get When You Use Our Services" below).
- Your profile photo (optional). If you upload a photo during onboarding, it is stored on your device inside an iOS App Group container and is sent to Google's Gemini image-generation service as a reference image when Noted. creates AI album-cover art for your voice notes. We do not transmit your photo anywhere else, and Google's processing of it is governed by Google's own terms (linked below).
